Michigan

"If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you"

Michigan is a unique peninsular state located in the Great Lakes region of the Upper Midwest in the United States. It is bordered by Minnesota to the northwest, Wisconsin to the west, Indiana and Illinois to the southwest, Ohio to the southeast, and the Canadian province of Ontario to the east, northeast, and north. The state is notable for its extensive water boundaries, with four of the five Great Lakes surrounding it, making Michigan a key state for freshwater resources and recreational opportunities.

Covering an area of 96,716 square miles (250,490 km²), Michigan stands as the eleventh-largest state by area and is the largest state east of the Mississippi River in total area. With a population of approximately 10.14 million people, it is the tenth-most populous state in the nation. The state capital is Lansing, while Detroit is Michigan’s largest and most populous city. Metro Detroit is recognized as one of the country’s largest metropolitan economies. Other major metropolitan areas in Michigan include Grand Rapids, Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, the Tri-Cities (Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland), and Muskegon. Michigan’s diverse geography and rich cultural heritage make it an important and distinctive state in the U.S.
