Utah is a landlocked state situated in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. Renowned for its striking geography, Utah features a diverse array of landscapes, from towering mountains and rolling plateaus to expansive deserts and stunning red rock formations. The state is one of the Four Corners states, sharing a unique geographical point with Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico where all four states meet. In addition to these, Utah also borders Wyoming to the northeast, Idaho to the north, and Nevada to the west.
Salt Lake City, the state capital and largest city, sits near the Great Salt Lake—the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere—which is a prominent natural landmark. Utah’s natural beauty is showcased in its five national parks: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion, which attract millions of visitors each year. The state’s climate varies from arid desert in the south to mountainous regions in the north, with significant seasonal temperature changes.
Utah’s history is deeply connected to Native American tribes and later, the Mormon pioneers who settled the region in the mid-1800s. Today, Utah is recognized for its outdoor recreation, thriving tech industry, and rich cultural heritage, making it a unique and vibrant state.
